Traditional liposuction can be a fairly violent procedure because the cannula has needed to be moved around quite aggressively to break lose the fat before it is suctioned out. This has created a good deal of tissue trauma and the bruising that accompanies it.
Dr. Kirwin now has a new body contouring option, Vaser Lipo, which uses state-of-the-art ultrasound technology to gently reshape your body.
What’s different about Vaser Lipo?
There are a couple of real differences with Vaser Lipo. First, the violence involved in traditional liposuction is unnecessary, as the ultrasound energy breaks up the fat, instead of movement of the cannula having to do it. Second, the ultrasound energy can be set to very selective wavelengths that target and break up fat while leaving other important tissues such as nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue unharmed. This makes for much easier, faster recovery.
How does Vaser Lipo work?
As with tumescent liposuction, the target area is first injected with a saline solution that also has adrenaline in it. This numbs the area and constricts blood vessels to minimize blood loss and bruising. The tumescent solution wets and fills the area, making it easier to break up the fatty tissue with the Vaser Lipo ultrasound energy.
The second step is to insert a small probe into the treatment area. The probe transmits sound energy to break up and liquefy the fat, while leaving other tissue undamaged.
In the final step, the liquefied fat is removed through a gentle suction process.
Where can Vaser Lipo be used?
Vaser Lipo, because it creates less tissue trauma can be used all over the body. It is effective on these areas: face, chin, abdomen, breasts, back, arms, love handles, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, calves, and ankles.
It’s important to remember that, like all liposuction, Vaser Lipo is not a weight loss procedure. It is a body contouring procedure. Patients need to be within approximately 10% of their ideal body weight to have the procedure with Dr. Kirwin.
